CulturGen’s production tip of the day
Been a proppa music geek today purchased 2 new pair of studio headphones for reference when monitoring and mixing CulturGen’s album and i am A/B
testing them against my Beyerdynamics DT770 pro’s this could be a future money saver, all the superlux range are under £40 and i have read nothing but good reviews about them so just had to try it out for myself.
So far i am very happy with the overall sound of both pairs, The HD660′s (back engineered obviously) are very close to my DT770 pro’s in build quality and sound, only noticeable difference is the highs are a little sharper on the superlux headphones but over 20 hours of burning in will flatten this out, for me a good pair of monitoring headphones have to be flat (no added bass, mid or trebble) and for the price these headphones are a just that and a bargain as well.
Tip – for extra comfort purchase the grey velvet pads for the DT770′s they fit perfect on the superlux HD660′s

I would not condone using just headphones for either the mixdown or mastering stages but it really does help with referencing to have a few good pair of headphones, i also use Adams A3x and Adams A7X as my studio monitors switching between all will only help getting your mixdown’s to the desirable level.
